Quarterly Goals: Spring/April-June

It's time for my winter quarterly goals review, & the establishment of my spring goals! I must shamefully confess that I accomplished very little this last quarter. New job, visiting family... all good distractions, but distractions nevertheless :) Hopefully this upcoming quarter will be productive. I have decided to make April my "writing month", so here's to the accomplishment of my new goals... or should I say, GOAL.

First, I'll review what I accomplished from the winter quarter:

#1. FINISH THE FIRST DRAFT OF MY FANTASY WIP

Sadly, I did not accomplish this. Right now, I am hovering at around 25,000 words, which isn't very much farther than where I was at the beginning of the quarter. It's shameful, I know! But I've gotten back into the swing of things, and this quarter will be IT!

#2. FINISH ALL MY TBRs FROM B-DAY/CHRISTMAS

Another thumbs-down. My four books to finish were: Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard, Crown of Embers by Rae Carson, Code Name Verity, & Entwined by Heather Dixon. I DID read Glass Sword, and I am currently reading Crown of Embers. But Code Name Verity and Entwined are still in my (very large) TBR pile. Maybe next quarter...

#3. TIE UP LOOSE ENDS WITH WHAT LIES ABOVE / SEND OUT NEW QUERIES

Check! I did do this. WHAT LIES ABOVE has most of its loose ends tied. There is still one agent reading my full manuscript, and I sent out an additional 20-something queries, pushing me over the 50 mark! Whew. I'm not sure where WLA will end up, but I'm working hard on Fantasy WIP, so I'm hopeful for the future.

#4. ENTER A WRITING CONTEST

I didn't get to this one yet. I've kept my eye out for some, but not entered any.

#5. KEEP CONNECTING WITH WRITERS & BUILDING A NETWORK

Of all my goals, this was my most successful for the quarter. I have met some wonderful writers, readers, & bloggers this year, through blogs, Facebook, and most recently Twitter. Come follow me & let's talk books!

#6. FINISH MY PUZZLE

I think I've accepted the fact that his will not happen in the near future. Now that my foot is healed and I'm back on my feet, that puzzle is stashed away!

Okay, so not a great first quarter. I think I have accomplished some good things, especially in the connecting-with-other-writers category. Now, my theme for this spring quarter is WRITE. I only have one goal for the April-June months, but it is a big one!

#1: FINISH FANTASY WIP & SEND OUT FIRST ROUNDS OF QUERIES

The plan is to finish the first draft by mid-May, cycle through several rounds of edits, and start sending out queries sometime in June. I KNOW I can do it! It will take discipline and lots of body-in-chair, but I can do it!
